Expert Witness & Claims Investigation
Dr. Ebow Coleman is called upon frequently to provide expert witness services and
claims investigation services. Dr. Coleman provides a professional independent,
objective evaluation of the problem. His systematic analytical approach includes
field observations and testing.

In cases of fire, water or hail damage, it is necessary to know the compromised
sections of the structure to plan the rehabilitation of a structure. We perform field
observations, document the extent of the damage, and take samples from several
locations for testing.

Some of the testing methods we use include:
- Compressive strength
- SEM
- Petrographic analysis
- Thermogravimetric Analysis
- On-site pulse velocity evaluation
- Moisture content in structures

We work with insurance claim adjustors and industrial facilities.

Key Relevant Projects - Claims / Failure Investigation
Evaluation of concrete in a fire-damaged building
Samples taken from a fire-damaged building were evaluated by the petrographic
analysis for the extent of damage caused.

Investigation of a vapor transmission through a concrete slab
Anhydrous Calcium Chloride test was used to determine the rate of vapor
transmission in the slab causing buckling of wooden floor finishing (parquet).
A suitable product was recommended for a durable repair of the floor and
prevention of recurrence.

Evaluation of concrete in a fire-damaged residential garage
Concrete slab was investigated and samples were tested to determine the extent
of damage and to recommend a possible repair option(s) to restore the integrity
of the slab.

Evaluation of recurring floor tile problem at a public library
Samples were evaluated using several methods to determine the cause of moisture
migration through the concrete floor. A suitable product was recommended to
prevent recurrence.

Recent Cases
Inland Crane, Inc. v. Oldcastle APG West, Inc., d/b/a Central Pre-Mix
Concrete Co.; CPM Development Corporation, d/b/a Central Pre-Mix
Concrete Co.; and Does I - III - United States District Court for the Eastern
District of Washington - Civil Case No. CS-03-0233-LRS
Compressive strength testing of concrete samples was performed, along with a Gas
Chromatography / Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) to determine retarder concentration
in three sections of a concrete pier 60 ft below river bed level: strong, weak and
unset concrete samples.
