Masonry

Mortars used in masonry buildings are called into question because of poor quality such as easy fall off of sand from mortar into joints. Excessive wetting of lower parts of brick buildings with attendant mold growth is often due to weak porous mortars. Weak mortars are readily identified, and well formulated ones are recommended for repair. Evaluation typically involves cutting out a section of wall with intervening mortar for the test.
